Making Structures

Creative Workshop

age: 7yrs plus

This is a new creative workshop we ran in June 2014 at the Systems Project exhibition on design: Play Sets Rules. It’s been some while since we actually ran workshops regularly so we jumped at the chance to do this one in a design gallery in central London.

This was a great chance to explore new ideas for creating structures out of cardboard taking direct inspiration from the display of Roger Limbrick’s cardboard toy constructions.

We decided not to have a subject theme, but to allow the qualities of the materials being used to dictate the end result – a process often followed by designers exploring for new ideas at the start of a project.

The result was two new Thinking by Making exploratory workshop on making structures one using corrugated cardboard and the other using small recycled packaging boxes. Project worksheets will follow at a later date, but these pictures seemed a good introduction on what we do and how we work.
